Tsuga canadensis 'Moonfrost'
This 'Moonfrost' variety is a favorite tree for shade or part sun. It often mimics a small tree with its small trunk underneath the airy foliage.
This variety is fun - it changes color throughout the year:
- Late winter/early spring, the whitish-green needles will get a pink blush on them. See middle photos.
- Springtime, the new growth is a creamy white at the tips of the branches (A very cool treat for the eye at the end of a long winter.)
- Summer, it turns back to a light gray-green color.
- Winter, shear it back before the new growth begins so you can appreciate the creamy tips in the springtime.
- Growth: less than 1"/yr
- Cold hardy to -30F or Zones 4 to 8
- Heat Zones 8 - 1
- Full or part sun
- Regular water
- Pot shown is 4 inches in diameter
- An outdoor plant
